Champagne Brunch on Motuhie then race to bottom end of Waiheke Island.Cruise home on Monday

Traditionally, Labour Weekend starts with a Champagne Brunch on Motuihe Island, either Ocean Beach or Wharf Bay, depending on the wind.

Boats start arriving from 10.30 onwards, and bring their own food. The H28 Association supplies the "bubbles". I usually take muffins, bacon and eggs, and orange juice. Others take sausages and bread with tomato sauce. We use the permanent BBQ’s on Motuihe, but many members have theirown BBQ’s with "Mr Stove", a gas cooker in its own plastic suitcase ($39.95 from the warehouse), being quite popular. Don’t worry if you don’t have a BBQ, as there are plenty of people willing to share.

A fun race to the bottom end of Waiheke is the next item, and the start times and race "rules" will be given out at the brunch. For those who can’t make the brunch, we usually end up at Man-O-War Bay, but listen on VHF channel 86/88 or contact Richie on his mobile 025 906 506.

Our evening meals are nearly always BBO’s on the beach. It has to be prettyfoul weather for us not to be on the beach at night, so remember to bring food that can BBQ, warm clothing, and something to "sitapon" on the beach. Dinner is always preceded by drinks!!, a chance to meet with other members, and have a bit of a laugh about the days activities.

For those energetic bods, a walk up to Stony Bailer from Man-O-War Bay is well worth the effort. Remember to bring a torch each and walking shoes. The views are magnificent! Stony Batter was a coastal gun battery constructed by the Government during the 2nd World War, when a Japanese attack seemed imminent. There are several underground tunnels, which are well worth exploring.

Some boats try fishing, so bring your fishing rods, and others just laze around with a good book.

We usually wend our way back on Monday.

Look out for the committee boats flying their large H28 flags, and come and join us. It is a lot of fun.

Heather and Richie on Monty Python (the orange H) will be co-ordinating the weekend, so give them a phone call before the weekend if you have any queries, or just join us all on Motuihe (or down the bottom end of Waiheke).
