New Zealand H28 Yacht Owners' Association Bulletin BoardFrequently Asked Questions and AnswersHere is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about the New Zealand H28 Yacht Owners' Association Bulletin Board.
How do I post on bulletin boards? You'll see many "topics" on the bulletin board. These are called "threads." You can post a response on someone's topic, or start one of your own.To start a new thread click on the "Post Message" link at the top of the list of topics. To post a response to a message, click on "Post Follow up." After typing your message, click on the "Submit Follow up" button. Your message will appear. Congratulations — you've just posted a message! As you get used to posting, you'll notice that some fellow posters appear to be speaking a different language. They are. But it's easy to decipher thanks to the cheat sheet we've compiled for you. Soon you'll be exchanging :-) and :-0 with the best of them. Here are a few general guidelines: • Try not to type in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. It's considered shouting and your message might be misinterpreted. • Be courteous and respectful of others' opinions. The
H28 Association reserves the right to delete offensive messages. Users who
repeatedly harass or could potentially harm other users will be sent a warning
and/or if necessary, be blocked from posting. Advertisements will also be
deleted. For more specific guidelines, see our community
guidelines. How do I start a new subject? You might want to do a search first to see if your topic already exists. If it doesn't, click on "Post Message" at the top of the list of topics to create a new thread within the bulletin board. Try to choose a title that will make sense to others.
What are all these smiley faces and acronyms I keep seeing, like "AKA"?Below are some common abreviations. Hopefully everything will start making sense!
I'm offended by some of the posts I've been seeing. Whom do I contact?Send your complaints to the H28 Association. Please include as much detail as possible, including user name, board title, and URL whenever possible. Without this information, it will take much longer to find the offending post.
I posted a message, but then changed my mind. How do I delete it?
Send a message to us at H28 Association. Please include as much detail as possible, including your user name, and subject
I posted a message last year, but now I can't find it. Why?Most messages will expire after a few months — although some topics have a shorter period before they are archived, depending on how popular a board is. A topic will not be archived unless it is no longer receiving active posts.
I saw a post by a friend but I don't remember which board it was on. How can I find it?Try our "Search Engine" box on the main bulletin board page to search by keyword or topic.
Can I add URLs in bulletin board posts?Yes. If you want to add a URL, copying and pasting works well. Please include the full address (for example: http://www.H28.org.nz). However, it is against our policies to put advertising, spam or pornographic URLs on the boards. Posts containing these will be deleted.
What if I have an idea for the bulletin board?Send a message to us with your suggestions and ideas to The New Zealand H28 Association.
Why is the bulletin board so slow to download?
When some of the threads on the bulletin boards become very long, they take longer to load into your browser. Those users on dial-up connections may find that some of the longer threads take quite a while to load, due to the sheer volume of data being transferred. Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts? No. You can not use HTML tags in any field except body of the message. The maintainer of the script has the option of allowing or disallowing any HTML in the Message part of your posting. If they disallow it, the script will just throw out everything in <>'s. If they allow it, your html markup will appear in the posting. It can't hurt to try.
Why are there colons in the message when I try to post a followup?Colons appear in the message dialog box when you try to followup up on a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the previous document. The owner of the New Zealand H28 Yacht Owners' Association Bulletin Board can decide whether they wish to enable or disable the quoting of previous messages.
Why didn't my post show up?Your post most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Please reload your browser and it should then appear.
