Fibreglass Dodgers

Jul 13, 2018 | Technical

Solid fibreglass dodgers have won a lot of support – the converts claiming a vast improvement on the traditional canvas ones. Popular in Nelson and common elsewhere in the country the key benefits include:

much more solid construction (one can lean on them safely)
more room behind them
keep the boat warmer
often side pockets are added for storing things like cell phones and binoculars
require little maintenance.

One of the first solid spray dodgers was made for Ian Syme’s boat Winsome some years ago. Nelson boat builder Ray Robertson who owns the mould has indicated he would be prepared to make more of them should there be a need.

There are also a couple of boats in Wellington who have recently (18 months ago) acquired them.

The last one made went on to Nelson H28 Confusion and cost about $2,000 fitted. The owner claims it is the best modification he has ever made to the boat!!
